Types of Therapy

Paper Crane Wellness uses a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, each suited to different needs and goals. Below is an overview of the modalities I work with.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a trauma-focused therapy that helps the brain process and heal from distressing experiences that may feel trapped in the body. Using guided bilateral stimulation and structured protocols, EMDR can reduce the emotional intensity of traumatic memories and support lasting relief from symptoms such as anxiety, panic, nightmares, and hypervigilance.

Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)

Prolonged Exposure Therapy is an evidence-based treatment for trauma and PTSD that helps individuals gradually approach memories, feelings, and situations they may have been avoiding. Through this process, clients can reduce fear, regain confidence, and reconnect with parts of life that trauma may have disrupted. A model of PE called COPE can also be used in cases where clients experience addictions co-occurring with PTSD.

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

Cognitive Processing Therapy is a structured trauma treatment that helps individuals identify and challenge unhelpful beliefs that can develop after traumatic experiences that ultimately sustain trauma symptoms. CPT supports clients in processing trauma, reducing shame and self-blame, and developing more balanced and empowering perspectives.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, nonjudgmental approach designed to help individuals explore ambivalence and strengthen motivation for change. Rather than directing or challenging, MI supports clients in identifying their own values, goals, and reasons for making meaningful changes.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT helps clients recognize unhelpful thinking patterns, develop practical coping strategies, and build healthier responses to challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, and life transitions.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy helps individuals develop psychological flexibility by learning to respond differently to difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences. ACT emphasizes mindfulness, values-based action, and building a meaningful life even in the presence of discomfort or uncertainty.
